Toric Lenses for Cataracts | Lens Options Offered In Our Las Vegas Offices

Toric lens implants can improve and stabilize a patient’s vision after cataract surgery, and can also be used for patients who have astigmatism. This type of lens has proven effective at providing clearer vision for a number of our patients.

Toric lens implants have been approved by the FDA since 2005 because they are safe, reliable and effective in stabilizing vision after cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is performed on patients who have cloudiness in their natural lens. The Toric lens can be implanted into the eye after this type of surgery to restore vision. Many eye are suggesting this procedure to their patients.

The permanent eye lenses can also be used for patients who have astigmatism, which is when the cornea is not shaped like a basketball but more like a football. This condition causes people to have blurry vision. In the past, ophthalmologists would make incisions at the end of the cornea to help create a rounder shape. However, the Toric lens is now being used for patients who suffer from astigmatism and cataracts.

During the placement of the Toric lenses, the ophthalmologist will only make a small incision in the natural lens because the soft plastic Toric lens can be folded before it is inserted into the eye. The haptics, or arms of the lens, will then help the new lens to unfold and correctly position itself. The Toric lens is used to correct astigmatism in patients who have had cataracts removed. It also eliminates the need for numerous surgeries in the future. This operation can be completed in our Las Vegas clinic as an outpatient procedure.

This new way of treating astigmatism is performed on adults who have a hard time reading and driving at night. The results so far have proven that the Toric lenses should be able to eliminate some, if not all, of the astigmatism experienced by patients. If a person has astigmatism or cataracts that need to be removed, then the insertion of Toric lenses can successfully be performed for clearer vision by a board-certified ophthalmologist at our Las Vegas clinic.
